Thank you for visiting SweetTeaProductions.com! 2006 is almost upon us and we are gearing up for some really big shows! STP formed in 2004, in a basement apartment in Astoria, NY, where a group of artists came together to fill a void – to create original works that have not been seen before. A diverse group of people interested in everything from traditional theatre to more experimental works, stand-up comedy, video and film, fine arts, digital design and fashion have come together to create an environment and a support system where new ideas can be explored and discovered. With an eye towards politics, media studies, gender studies and cultural studies, it is STP’s hope to expose audiences to fresh ideas and thoughtful productions.
In 2005, founders Dana Burkart, Michael Cavazos and Will Harrell launched Sweet Tea’s first cabaret, The Teabag Telethon, to great response at NYC’s Duplex Cabaret Theatre. With performers such as Anya Singleton, Ghost Runner and Rebecca Edmonston, and the comedy stylings of Bryan Olsen and Todd Womack, audiences left the theatre wanting more.
After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, STP teamed up with Astoria’s Albatross Bar in October to raise money to benefit The National Youth Advocacy Coalition Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. The show was entitled The Big Easy and featured Chic, Cynthia Alvarez, Margret Eir, The Barbarians, Sassy, Candy Samples and an exciting Halloween Contest! The show was a success and raised much needed funds for the relief fund.
This year will go out with a bang in our final show for 2005, a holiday spectacular entitled, Cheap X-mas Trash, a holiday potpourri of songs and comedy reflecting the ‘true’ meaning of Christmas.
Be sure to take a look at our shows. Our 2006 calendar is filling up and more great performances are coming your way!
